Daily Devotion, 12/19/17, Mark 2:1-12 “Faithful and Faith-filled Friends”
“When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven.’” Mark 2:5 NLT
Our scripture passage today reminds us that some people aren’t able to make it to Jesus on their own. Like the man in the story, they are paralyzed. They are paralyzed by fear. They are paralyzed by exhaustion. They are paralyzed by despair. They are paralyzed by a lack of faith. They need a friend, maybe a couple of friends, who can believe for them and be their faith. They need someone who believes that Jesus still rescues, restores and redeems to bring them to Him.
It was not the faith of the man on the mat that moved Jesus, it was the faith of his friends who were carrying him. Because there were those who were willing to believe for him, the paralyzed man received forgiveness for his sins and healing for his body. You can’t fix all the people around you who are stuck in their stuff but you can do something very powerful, you can bring them to Jesus. You can be their faith today. Pray for that lost husband. Pray for that wayward son. Pray for that friend who’s at the end of their rope. Pray for that co-worker who doesn’t believe in God. Pray for that loved one who is bound by addiction. Pray for those in your circle who are paralyzed by the evil one and the sad realities of living in a fallen world. Even if they don’t believe, believe for them. You are loved!
