Daily Devotion, 01/17/18, “Created to be Loved”
“What is the price of five sparrows—two copper coins? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.” Luke 12:6-7 NLT
I noticed yesterday morning that the bird feeder in our prayer garden was empty. Maybe it’s because of the cooler temps, but it seems like there are more birds eating more seeds than normal. Despite the weather and the busyness of yesterday morning, I took the time to fill up the feeder. Why? I care about those backyard birds just like I care about our two dogs, three sheep, three cats and twelve chickens. In our passage today, Jesus says that God cares about every single bird, not just the flock as a whole, but each bird individually. That being said, there’s nothing in all of creation that He cares about more than you.
You are worth more to Him than the majestic mountains in Montana. You are worth more to Him than the stunning beaches of the islands. You are worth more to Him than any and all of the animals on the planet. He cares about all of them but you are worth immeasurably more to Him.
Sometimes it’s easy to forget that. When problems and pressures come, you can feel like somehow God has lost you in the crowd. You get that He cares about “the whole world” and “the Body” as whole but what about you specifically? Know that He sees you, He cares about you and He loves you. He knows what you are going through. He sees your tears and He knows your fears. You are not forgotten and you are not alone.
He will see you through the winter. You are loved!
