Daily Devotion, 01/25/18, “What If God Were One Of Us?”
“So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.” John 1:14 NLT
Our passage today is one of the most significant statements in all of scripture and all of history. Jesus, The Word who is also The One, became one of us. The Unknowable made Himself known. The Unreachable was just an arm’s distance away. The One who was so holy that His Name could not even be spoken took on a human name, “Jesus.” God, who had forever been shrouded in mystery, could now be seen. All those things humanity wanted to know about God including how He would speak and what He would do, were seen and recorded. We couldn’t live and leave earth so the Creator left heaven and came to us. That changed everything.
Now when we want to know how to act, we have a model. He didn’t just tell us how to live, He showed us how to live. He showed us how to treat those we love, those we are uncomfortable around and even those we hate. He showed us how to deal with those who treat us unfairly and how to be gentle with those who are weaker. He showed us how to love extravagantly, live abundantly and die gloriously. He showed us our Abba Father’s heart and how we can have an intimate relationship with Him. When He left, He sent His Spirit to live in us and through us.
God is closer than you think. He’s with you today no matter what your today holds. You are loved!
