Daily Devotion, 12/11/2018, “A Friend’s Prayer”
3 John 2 NLT
My beloved friend, I pray that everything is going well for you and that your body is as healthy as your soul is prosperous.
There’s some solid truth behind this simple but sincere greeting from John to his good friend Gaius. John knows that his friend is prospering spiritually and that he is thriving in his faith in Jesus. To prosper spiritually includes living in loving communion with the Father, loving others with the love of Christ and being filled with and led by the Spirit in the everyday stuff of life. Prospering at the soul level goes way beyond the ritualistic, religious, casual and largely uncommitted Christianity so many settle for. What if John’s greeting to Gaius is pointing to something deeper? Could it be that there is a direct correlation between your spiritual health and your quality of life and physical health? If your quality of life and physical health are only as good as your spiritual health then it would make sense to make your walk with God your highest priority.
As you think about what’s ahead in 2019, I hope that you’ll set some personal goals to go after with God’s help. For example, you may want to get in better shape, learn a new skill, drop a bad habit or improve your financial standing. All of those things are important. God can give you the wisdom of His Word and the empowering of His Spirit to make each goal a reality. Just remember, His greatest desire is for you to prosper in your walk with Him. Make knowing Him your highest priority so that your soul prospers. In so doing, you will have the presence of God, wisdom of God, the healing of God and the favor of God to take you to the high places of blessing in Him.
I pray that every part of your life, including your physical health, prospers as your soul prospers.
You are loved!
