Daily Devotion, 12/18/2018, “The Big Reveal”

Revelation 1:1-3 NLT
This is a revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants the events that must soon take place. He sent an angel to present this revelation to his servant John, 2 who faithfully reported everything he saw. This is his report of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. 3 God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the church, and he blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says, for the time is near.

I vividly remember being both intrigued and terrified the first time I heard someone teach on Revelation. I was maybe eight years old at a revival service near Houston. The speaker had ginormous paintings on canvases all across the platform which depicted many of the sensational scenes from this last book of the Bible. I don’t remember anything specific that was taught, but I do remember being scared! Many Christ-followers avoid Revelation altogether because of the confusion and fear they experience as they try to read it. The apocryphal symbolism from John’s vision that makes up much of the book can be difficult to dissect. Also, without a thorough knowledge of the books of Daniel and Ezekiel from the Old Testament, putting the prophetic pieces of the Revelation together is very difficult. That being said, there is much to be gained by those who take the time to journey through it. John writes in verse three that, “God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the church, and he blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says.” I hope that you receive that blessing in the coming days.

If there’s one encouraging theme that ties all of Revelation together, it’s simply that we win. No matter what our enemy, the evil one, does to advance his dark kingdom in our lives and in our world, we who follow Jesus win. If you feel discouraged and a little beaten down today, be encouraged, we will win this thing! God promises us that the victory is His. If you too are His, then the victory is yours also.

You are loved!
