Daily Devotion, 3/21/18, Day 19: Wreck Us With Grace
Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrated His own love for us in this; While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
God’s nature, shown to us through Jesus Christ, was and is one of love and rescue. God’s heart has always been turned towards us. A snapshot of God’s heart is captured in the parable of the prodigal son. Luke 15:20 describes it this way, “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.” Before his son ever spoke one word of regret or remorse, the father ran to his son and embraced him. What extravagant and radical grace! Oh, how many times has our Savior done this for us. This is our God.
This unfathomable grace is for everyone and for every place our hearts may feel weak, doubtful or rebellious today. As those who are “prone to wander, Lord we feel it, prone to leave the God we love,” we never have to fear our Father’s rejection or disappointment.
While we were yet sinners, Jesus ran straight from Heaven’s heart to meet us just like we are. In compassion, Jesus’ arms opened wide on the cross to pull us close. Salvation and sonship were expressed in that holy embrace. Jesus, then and there in that redemptive act of love, signed our adoption papers with His own nail- scarred hands.
Jesus, wreck us today by a fresh awakening of grace and beckon us into Your arms of love again. May we run to embrace others with the same grace we have been given.
Reflect and Record your thoughts.
* How does it feel to know you have been pulled close to Jesus’ heart and received as a son or daughter?
* Share grace with someone in your life today.
