Daily Devotion, 3/6/18, Days 3 and 4

I don’t write devotions on Sunday mornings so I’m not in the rhythm of posting one then but my precious Sharon told me that I needed to post Day 2 last Sunday or we wouldn’t complete the 30 day journey by Easter so today you’re getting Day 3 and Day 4 to get us back on track. My apologies. Again, these devotions are from the 30 day devotional journey, "More of Him, Less of Me" written by Sharon Ardizzone.

Day 3- Dangerous Love

"Now that you've cleaned up your lives by following the truth, love one another as if your lives depended on it." 1 Peter 1:22, The Message

"Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins." 1 Peter 4:8

Jesus is not nearly as concerned about what we do as He is about how we do it. Do we carry His love, mercy and kindness? Do those around us see who Jesus is when they look at us and work with us? May it be so! When a piece of fruit is squeezed, one would expect the juice of that specific fruit to drip out of it. Similarly, when we are squeezed by life, by others, by crazy traffic, by those who disagree with us, by those who rub us the wrong way and so on, “juice” from the fruit of what is dominant in us flows out. There is much grace for those times when our flesh comes out instead of His love but may we press on towards more of Him and His love flowing out of us rather than more of us.

Pray the dangerous daily prayer God gave you on Day 1 then identify one person who is hard for you to love. Ask God to show you one act of kindness you can do for them today or this week.

Pause and ask the Holy Spirit to open the eyes of your heart in a fresh way. Read 1 Corinthians 13 in the version of your choice and write down anything the Lord is saying to your heart.  Much love!

Day 4-The Beauty of Simplicity

Simplicity. Sometimes in the chaos of life, it's easy to lose the beauty of the simple. Life has a way of getting so very complicated but Jesus invites us into more yet less. Jesus invites us:

“Walk with Me and work with Me- watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28, The Message

Oftentimes, the first step towards simplicity is coming back to Jesus as our first love. May the lyrics of this song, “Simplicity” by Rend Collective, give voice to your prayer as this new day begins. (Download this song and listen if you are able)

I come in simplicity, longing for purity

To worship You in Spirit and truth

Only You

Lord strip it all away ‘til only you remain

I’m coming back to my first love

Only You

I come with my broken song to you the Perfect One

To worship You in Spirit and truth

Only You

Give me a childlike heart, lead me to where You are

I’m coming back to my first love

Only You

Pray your daily dangerous prayer.

*What thoughts does this song stir within you?

*Where do you long for your life to have more simplicity?

Write down your thoughts.
