Daily Devotion, 3/7/18, Day 5- Dangerous Humility
"It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him the leave this world and go the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of His love. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples feet drying them with a towel wrapped around him." John 13:1-5
Humility. What a profound example of Jesus' life. Jesus exemplified the very opposite of pride. It has been said that humility is not thinking less of ourselves but thinking of ourselves less. We see from our scripture today that Jesus knew who He was in relation to the Father and from that place of knowing, He was able to focus on others, serve others, love others and minister to others. That seems simple enough but when we live it out, it becomes quite revolutionary. Jesus’ life was dangerously humble. The humility of His life made an impact spiritually wherever He went and to whomever His humility was demonstrated towards.
Spend some time today asking God to show you who you are in Him. From that place of knowing, find one person whose feet you can symbolically wash today with great humility. Take a risk. Follow Jesus and any promptings He gives you.
Record your experience in your journal.
Reflect and Record:
Where in your life do you desire more humility?
