Daily Devotion, 04/30/2018, “A Thousand Years"
“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” Ephesians 1:4-5 NLT
Please don’t take away my man card for saying this but one of my favorite movies is the romantic chick flick, “Shall We Dance?” It’s the story of love reborn between a husband and wife who had been married for a long time but had drifted apart. Sense I’m confessing, you should also know that one of my favorite songs of all time is “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. The chorus says, “I have died every day, waiting for you. Darling, don't be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years, I'll love you for a thousand more. And all along I believed, I would find you. Time has brought your heart to me, I have loved you for a thousand years. I'll love you for a thousand more.” I think it’s because I love my precious wife Sharon so deeply but as even as I read those lyrics I tear up.
To love someone so deeply that you feel your heart loved theirs “a thousand years” ago, that’s true love! Our passage today says that God loves you like that. Even before He created everything out of nothing, He loved you. He knew that you would not always love Him in return. He knew that you would make choices that would keep you away from Him. He knew that He would send Jesus to make a way for you to be with Him. He loves you that much. He has always loved you that much.
No matter where life has taken you or what life has done to you, you are still a dream-come-true to God. He not only loved you from the moment you were born into this world, He loved you before this world was born at all. You are loved!
