Daily Devotion, 05/09/2018, "Gear Up”
A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. Ephesiasn6:10-11 NLT
I sweat really bad…follow me on this, there is a point I promise :) Long ago when I was a serving with the Army, I remember putting on my bullet proof vest and Kevlar helmet thinking, it’s way too hot to get shot at today. I would have been vastly more comfortable in flip flops and a swim suit! Because we had an enemy with a strategy to kill us, we chose body armor over beach wear.
Paul warns us that our enemy, the devil, has a strategy also. We know from John 10:10 and from 1 Peter 5:8 that his strategy is to “steal, kill and destroy” as well as to “devour” us. Because the threat he poses is a clear and present danger to us, we must gear up and stand firm. In Ephesians 6:13-17, Paul tells us that we gear up by “putting on” truth, righteousness, peace and faith. We move forward with clarity and purpose because we know that salvation and victory are ultimately ours. We know the Word of God and how to use it as effectively as a Navy SEAL knows his favorite weapon and how to use it.
As you step into life today, take the time to gear up. Soak in Ephesians 6:10-17 and ask God to show you if there are any weaknesses in your armor. We’re in the greatest army with the greatest General of all time. His strategy will prevail. Without a doubt, we win this war so take courage. Until the final victory, gear up, stand firm and “Be strong in the Lord and his mighty power.”
You are loved!
