Daily Devotion, 07/13/2018, “Forever Faithful”
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 NIV Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.
I like how Paul connects “the God of peace” with our being “kept blameless.” The more I live in His grace, the more of His peace I experience. When my lifestyle reflects His holiness, I create less chaos and welcome in more peace. When I go my own way in sin and selfishness, I push His peace away. If I want to live with a deep and settled peace, I must choose to let God do His redemptive, purifying work in me each day. Only He can make me holy and keep me blameless. He does this by giving me a sense of what is wise, right and beneficial along with the inner strength to actually do it. Without His provision of conviction and discernment along with the empowering to say no to what is not of Him and yes to what is, I will fail. I simply do not have enough wisdom and strength on my own to live a holy and blameless life. That’s why Paul’s prayer for the Thessalonian Christians is, “Now may the God of peace make you holy…” Only our holy God’s work in our surrendered and submitted hearts can make us holy and blameless.
And, as Paul writes, “he who calls you is faithful.” Even when you are not faithful to all He has called you to and from, He is faithful! Is there something less than holy and blameless that is robbing you of His peace today? If so, confess that to Him, breathe in His peace and move in the new direction He leads you in.
You are loved!
