Go Fish, Part 1: “Followers Fish”

Mark1:14-15NIV  After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”  As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”  At once they left their nets and followed him.  When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

·      The call to FOLLOWis a call to FISH.

 ·      ALLChrist- followers, regardless of their GIFTS, are called to “FISH.”

·      Followers teach those they “CATCH” that it’s not enough to simply FOLLOW, to follow is to fish which is why you are HERETODAY.

Luke 5:1-11 NIV   One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on himto listen to the word of God. He noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left themand were washing their nets. Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon (later named Peter),its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taughtthe crowds from there. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” “Master,” Simon replied,“we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fishthey began to tear! A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking. When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.” For he was awestruck by the number of fishthey had caught, as were the others with him.His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.
