Daily Devotion, 08/16/2018, “Thankful for You”
Philemon 1:4-5NIV I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers, because I hear about your love for all his holy people and your faith in the Lord Jesus.
There’s honestly not all that much to be gleaned from Paul’s short letter to his “dear friend and fellow brother” Philemon. (see verse 1) Paul wants Philemon to take in their mutual friend Onesimus so he gives his reasons why, makes the ask and that’s pretty much it. That being said, I love how Paul starts the letter, “I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers...”
We spend a good bit of our time in prayer bringing the needs of others in our circle to God. From spiritual needs to financial, relational and physical needs, there is always much to intercede for on the behalf of others. Hopefully some of those “others” are interceding for you and your needs also. Sometimes though, you will think of someone while you’re praying and the overwhelming feeling you have in that moment is gratitude. You can’t help but give God thanks for them as you remember them in your prayers.
I encourage you to spend some of your prayer time this morning thanking God for specific people in your circle who He has used to bring you closer to Him. As you give thanks for them, also “remember them” by asking God to bless them today and to meet all of their needs according to his riches in glory. (Philippians 4:19) One last thing, take the time to let them know the blessing they are to you and that you are thankful for them.
You are loved!
