Daily Devotion, 09/08/2018, “Peace and Provision”
Hebrews 13:5-6 NLT Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”
I’ve heard Dave Ramsey, Pastor Rick Warren and others say that “We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like.” That statement is sadly so true for so many these days. We can live with a genuine sense of peace and contentment if we will look to God as our ever present “helper” but if we try to impress “mere people” with what we possess, we forfeit God’s peace and provision for us.
“Don’t love money.” Enjoy it, bless others with it, work diligently to earn it, invest it wisely, return to God His tithe (tenth part) of it, be a good steward of it but don’t love it. Don’t give your heart, your peace and your intimacy with God away but pursuing it as you would pursue the one you love. Instead, put all of that emotion and energy into pursuing God. Do that and you will live with a satisfaction, confidence and fearlessness that all the money in the world can’t buy.
You are loved!
