Daily Devotion, 01/12/2019, “More of Him, Less of Me”
John 3:30 NLT
He must increase, but I must decrease.
We’re now on day seven of our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting; one down, two to go! As you press into God in the days ahead, keep reminding yourself of why you’re doing this. It’s not about food, hunger, diets or resolutions. It’s not about earning spiritual brownie points so that God will give you what you want. It’s about drawing close to God. It’s about pressing into God at the first of the year so that He can speak into your life some of what you need for the rest of the year. As you deny your flesh through the fast, you are saying to God what John the Baptist said, “I must decrease.” You’re intentionally saying no to some of the demands and appetites of your body, emotions and will while saying yes to more focused time in prayer and to a deeper intimacy with God so that He may “increase” in your life. More of Him, less of me; disconnect with the world, connect with God, that’s the point of prayer and fasting.
The focus of this first week has been Jesus…choosing to be totally dependent on Him, surrendering completely to Him, worshiping Him for who He is, humbly repenting and receiving His grace. More of Him, less of me. Next week we will focus more on our personal needs and in week three we will interceded for others, our nation and our world but before we get to our needs and theirs, He must increase, we must decrease.
Make this your simple, from the heart prayer today, “Jesus I choose to decrease so that you may increase.”
You are loved!
