Galatians 5:1 NIV
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Last week, in week one of our 21 Days, the focus was all on Jesus. This week we will focus on ourselves. Specifically, we’ll focus on God doing a powerful work in us personally as we pray and fast.
The word for today is freedom. Take a look again at Galatians 5:1. Paul writes that “Christ has set us free” so that we can live in freedom. We have freedom from sin, from the lies we believe about ourselves apart from Jesus, from addiction, from hate, from bitterness and so on. We have freedom but so often we do not choose to declare our freedom and then walk in it. It’s like the prison cell door and every gate is wide open but we decide to just sit in our cell instead of getting up and exercising our freedom. We have freedom but we can easily “be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” and choose to not walk in it.
Jesus said in Luke 4:18-19, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,because he has anointed meto proclaim good news to the poor.He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisonersand recovery of sight for the blind,to set the oppressed free,to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Jesus came so that you could have a fresh start and live in freedom. Why then is it so difficult to walk in that freedom? The answer is that you have an adversary, the evil one, who is constantly trying to keep you in bondage. You must replace his lies with the truth of God’s Word by praying what the Word says about you and your victory. You must declare your freedom and use the authority God has given you over the evil one. You must guard your thoughts and filter what you see, hear and say. You also must choose joy and peace regardless of your circumstances. You have freedom in that it’s freely available to you, but you only truly have freedom if you fight for it every day. May you walk in freedom today. You are loved!
