Daily Devotion, 01/18/2019, “Called Out”
1 Peter 2:9 NIV
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
When I was a kid in Houston, I’d play football in the school yard across from our home with my older brother and his friends. Most of the time, I was both the youngest and the smallest on the field. I was more often than not the dreaded last pick when it came time to choose teams. It always felt much better to be chosen than to be put on a team by default as the last kid standing. Peter reminds us that we are all top picks on God’s dream team, chosen and called to “declare his praises.” We were created to worship and if you think about it, worship is more of a lifestyle thing than a singing songs to God thing. Worship is 24/7 really. Worship is knowing your calling and then living out your calling by making a difference.
Isaiah was called and chosen also. We can learn a great deal from Isaiah about how to respond to God’s call. If you have time, go back and read all of Isaiah 6. Isaiah responded to God’s call first with humility, (“Woe is me”) and then with boldness, (“Here am I, send me.”)
Isaiah 6:5, 8 NIV “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” 8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I, send me.”
Humbly surrender to God’s call. Humbly give God all the glory for what He does through you. Humbly love well as you lead and serve others. Boldly embrace your calling, Boldly do what God has called you to do. Boldly pray for God make a difference through you. You are loved!
PS About to go fishing, wish us luck!
