Daily Devotion, 01/02/2019, “Forget About It”
Isaiah 43:19-19 NIV
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
Happy New Year! I hope your 2019 is off to a good start!
I was thinking of the best way to walk in all of the “new” God has for me in 2019 when I saw a post from one of my CrossRoads brothers. He posted a picture (see pic) from while he was hunting of a tattoo he has along with his thoughts heading into the new year. After quoting Isaiah 43:18-19, he wrote, “No matter if 2018 or earlier was a good or bad year for you. Break the chains. Focus on God for your present and future and watch all the wonderful things he can do in your life.” There is much wisdom in his words.
God is doing a “new thing” in your life but you’ll miss out on what He’s up too if you “dwell on the past.” Learn from your mistakes but refuse to be defined by them. Think about them just enough to gain the wisdom God wants to impart to you and then move on. If you focus too long and too much on the regrets, mistakes and setbacks, you will “not perceive” new life and opportunity as it “springs up” within you. You will miss “the way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland” God is making for you because all you focus on is the wilderness and the wasteland.
May you learn from your past and then move into the new God has for you in 2019. If you’re into needles and ink, you can mark the moment with a new tattoo. As for me, I think I’ll just commit it to memory :)
You are loved!
