Daily Devotion, 04/13/2019, “That’s Predictable”
Acts 11:27-30 NLT
During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.) The disciples, as each one was able, decided to provide help for the brothers and sisters living in Judea. This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.
This may be a radical thought for many of us but try to follow me on this. As people connected in relationship with our all-knowing God, we have the ability to hear from God and then pass on His words, warnings and wisdom to others. Think about the tremendous potential we have to impact culture, business, government and so on as we bring God-given solutions to problems big and small in our world. There are several facets to New Testament prophecy. One of them is to receive God’s perspective, wisdom and insight regarding what is to come and what His provision is regarding what is to come. When we receive prophetic words like these from God and then get them to the people who need them and can act on them, we can demonstrate the power and wisdom of God while positively impacting our world.
God showed Agabus what was to come, Agabus told the disciples what God ha
d spoken and the disciples were able to prepare. It’s similar to how God used Joseph in Genesis 41. I believe that He can use us in similar ways these days if we will learn to listen to what He is saying and the have the faith and courage to pass on what He says. He knows the future and we know Him. He wants to shape the future through the words He gives us. May we stay close enough to hear His words and faithful enough to pass them on.
