What CrossRoads Believes
WHAT KIND OF CHURCH IS THIS?
CrossRoads is made up of people from a variety of church backgrounds. With such diversity, we have decided to keep the focus on the love of Christ that unites us, rather than on the theological issues that could divide us. We do not try to convert people from one brand of Christianity to another. We do encourage everyone to seek after God with all they are and to simply follow Him.
Many conflicting theological perspectives can be derived from the same Bible. God’s design in giving us His Word this way was not to divide us into hundreds of denominations. His design was to reveal Himself in a way that would not allow us to reduce Him to a system or a creed, but instead would invite us to pursue a relationship with Him. With this in mind, there are some basic beliefs that we have as a base line for our teaching and fellowship.
FORGIVEN AND FREE
The penalty for sin is separation from God in this life and in eternity. We are saved from paying that penalty when we accept God’s free gift of forgiveness to us. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. When we confess our sin to God, believe in Christ’s payment for our sin on the cross and turn from our self-ruled life to new life in Jesus, we are saved.
All people are born with a bent toward sin and eventually do sin. Not only are Christ-followers forgiven for their sins, they are also empowered by the Holy Spirit to escape temptation and live God-pleasing lives. It’s definitely a life-long journey of restoration and it doesn’t happen overnight, but new life at every level is available to all who choose to daily follow Jesus.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The call to Christ is a call to show His love in practical ways by serving others. Serving is a great way to make a real difference while connecting with other Christ-followers. THE HOLY BIBLE
The Bible is the inspired and authoritative Word of God. We use multiple translations and paraphrased versions in our teaching as we strive to communicate scripture as clearly as possible.
There is one God, eternally existent in 3 co-equal persons: the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Trinity is the ultimate example of the kind of unity, love and fellowship we are invited to live in with God and with each other.
